In the menus, would it be possible to automatically detect and change the appearance of shortcut links to programs that are not currently installed?
eg Change the text color or the background color of the uninstalled program.
Or maybe automatically move all all to a sub-menu.
That way you can easily identify that the shortcut links are dead, and it won't be confusing if you keep them there for when you do install the program.
