- cmishima - 08-18-2003 I wonder if it is possible to have a folder with email objects (like a quick launch for email) I do not know how to make such an email object but it would be very helpful to be able to have folder with a list of email addresses that I could simply click on and create an email. It would be similar to having a folder of favorite websites. Does anyone know how to do such a thing? Thank you - a1ehouse - 08-18-2003 Just create a shortcut with the following: mailto:address@hotmail.com You can even run from the cmdline plugin If you want to get fancy, you can include a subject header like this: mailto:address@hotmail.com?subject=True Launch Bar!! Easy!! - shapeshifter - 08-19-2003 Very snazy! Thanks a lot... - cmishima - 08-19-2003 This method does not seem to work correctly for me. I make the shortcut succesfully on the True Launch Bar. However when I click the shortcut first Internet Explorer browser opens and onlt after that my mail system starts. - a1ehouse - 08-19-2003 OK try this - On your desktop> Right Click New Shortcut In the "Type location..." text box type this exactly like this: mailto:address@hotmail.com Click Next Call it address@hotmail.com Click Finish It should now take ths icon of your mail program. Try double clicking this shortcut. What happens? It also depends on your mail reader program I suppose, what are you using? - cmishima - 08-19-2003 No I am sorry it still does not work. I typed it in carefully as you suggested and it *still* becomes a internet shortcut. When I click it first IE launches and then the email program. I am using Outlook. <sigh> - a1ehouse - 08-19-2003 Hmmm... ...works fine for me!?! What's in your Internet Options under the Programs Tab the e-mail bit? - cmishima - 08-19-2003 Well I tested this procedure on a basic windows setup and YES it works. I fear something in my main setup is interferring with this. Anyway I now know how to do what I want to do and thank you for helping. I will test and find out what is causing the problem. - Yuri Kobets - 08-19-2003 cmishimaCheck also this: Folder Options->File Types find URL extension and click "Advanced" button. Select [i]open[/b] in the actions and press Edit. Now check that all values like on attached picture. - Sam Hasler - 08-20-2003 I used to get mail shortcuts opening in IE first until recently. I guess it was either upgrading from from NT4 to Win 2000 or Outlook 98 to Outlook 2000 that stopped it. Note you can also include CC and body fields: I also just use names and rely on Outlook to look them up so if their addresses change I don't have to change my shortcuts. mailto:fred?CC=barney; wilma&subject=Yabadabadoo&Body=Greeeting%0A%0A<--Two line returns. Start of template message. two more line returns -->%0A%0A I don't know how I know that. I probably found something on the net so there's probably a more complete description of the syntax out there. - cmishima - 08-20-2003 I have tested further. I reset my internet options and the email link worked. However I do not use IE as my default browser so when I changed my default browser again the email link would not work. Therefore it seems this technique *only* works if IE is the default browser. - Yuri Kobets - 08-20-2003 Quote:Therefore it seems this technique *only* works if IE is the default browser. What browser do you use? I'm using Opera and all works fine. - cmishima - 08-20-2003 I am using Avant Browser It supports Japanese and several useful features. Especially roboforms toolbar but it does have some disadvantages like D&D not working correctly. Someday in the future maybe we can have True Launch Browser - Loren - 11-01-2003 When I create a mailtoomebody@someplace.com the icon and email program that is used is Outlook. Outlook is not my default program and anywhere else when I click on a similar mailto: it takes me to my default email app (Netscape mail). Is this hard coded in the toolbar app? or is there a workaround? - Yuri Kobets - 11-01-2003 No this is not hard coded. Try open same link on desktop. |
