Can't install True Launch Bar - BarryH - 12-14-2008 Hi I've been using TLB for several months and I'm very pleased with it so I decided to start installing on to my other computers. I've hit my first snag! I ran the installer on my home PC, which completed OK. But when I come to setup TLB I right click on a blank area of the task bar, select Toolbars from the pop up menu and there's no sign of 'True Launch Bar'! I have no idea how to proceed. Any suggestions? - Yuri Kobets - 12-14-2008 What is the Windows version on the computers? Note there are different installation packages for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. - BarryH - 12-14-2008 Hi Yuri This machine is Windows XPHome SP3 Looking throught other posts I have checked the registry entries mentioned for HKCU and CLSID and all entries are as specified. Seems to be a bit of a poser? **Edited** Just to follow up, I've run the "Reset True Launch bar settings" utility across all drives with all boxes checked and it found absolutely nothing! - Yuri Kobets - 12-14-2008 Can you post the screenshot of the Toolbars menu? - BarryH - 12-14-2008 Is this what you mean? - Yuri Kobets - 12-14-2008 Yes, this is what I wanted to see. As I see there the problems with the registry on your computer. Please can you check the registry keys: Code: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Component Categories\{00021492-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} and Code: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Discardable\PostSetup\Component Categories\{00021492-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} If any of these keys is not exists try to create them. After creating restart the computer. - BarryH - 12-14-2008 Hi Yuri Well, the second key didn't exist, I wasn't sure what format the key should take so I entered it with the part in curly brackets as a sub key. But it didn't help I'm afraid. Any other suggestions? OOps! Just seen a typo! I'll be back shortly! I'm not clear here, should there be a space? "Component Categories" or not "ComponentCategories" In any event it doesn't help. :? - BarryH - 12-14-2008 I tried to launch the standalone Launch Bar. That just freezes "not responding" So there's something going on (or not) - BarryH - 12-15-2008 Yuri Have you any suggestions how I can proceed? As the standalone version freezes as soon as I try to click either left or right mouse button I wondered if that might give you another clue? I've had a search round both C: and D: drive partitions, I can't find any files or folders that might relate to TLB other than the files and folder in D:\Program Files which I assume were created by the installer; but then I don't really know what I'm looking for! There's nothing in any of the QuickLaunch folders other than the shortcuts already created. - Yuri Kobets - 12-15-2008 Quote:As the standalone version freezes as soon as I try to click either left or right mouse button I wondered if that might give you another clue?So after running standalone version you get the icons but can't to run it? Is this possible to open the standard Quick Launch? Maybe this is the incompatibility with any type of software you installed? Can you try to create the second user account and run TLB there? As I see on the screenshot you have only Desktop and Quick Launch in the toolbars list. By default this menu must contain some other standard toolbars like "Address", "Links", "Windows Media Player". Usually this is because of work some of "system/registry cleaner". And usually the fixing the registry keys restore the functionality. But if the standalone TLB don't want to work then this is the incompatibility with some other software most likely. - BarryH - 12-15-2008 [quote="Yuri KobetsSo after running standalone version you get the icons but can't to run it? Is this possible to open the standard Quick Launch?[/quote] Hi Yuri There's something really weird going on here, take a look at the screenshot video. It's too big for the forum but I've emailed it as a separate attachment. I've even created a new user account and it exhibits exactly the same feature! I hear what you say about software conflict but I don't run any software on this machine different to what I run on another machine where TLB runs fine. Quick Launch seems to work fine, I have icons for IE7, Show Desktop, Windows Media Player 11 and Snagit, all work as intended. I guess I'm going to have to try a repair install of XP? - Yuri Kobets - 12-15-2008 Funny video BTW What is the "Brutus Toolbar". I guess it is using some type of hack to add itself into the Toolbars menu. - BarryH - 12-15-2008 It's just a folder with 4 shortcuts for different shutdown/logoff modes that I added as another toolbar <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.proffs.nu/brutus.htm">http://www.proffs.nu/brutus.htm</a><!-- m --> So I guess I'll try reinstalling XP? - Yuri Kobets - 12-15-2008 BarryH Wrote:So I guess I'll try reinstalling XP?I think this is the best solution  - BarryH - 12-16-2008 Hi Yuri Well, one clean reinstall of XP seems to have done the trick! Now all I have to do is reinstall everything else. I've only got a personal license, can I upgrade it to a Home license? If so, what's the procedure to upgrade? Thanks for your help. |
