- cmishima - 09-18-2002 Windows Version: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional version 5.0.2195 Service Pack 3 Shell Version:5.0.3502.5436 Internet Explorer Version: 6.0.2600.0000 Mail Monitor 1.3 Beta True Launch Bar 1.2.7 RC3 Under certain circumstances Mail monitor will cause Explorer.exe to crash and go into an infinite loop of crash-write error – crash again. Yesterday two email messages arrived to my mailbox. As soon as mail monitor 1.3 checked my email box Explorer.exe crashed and kept on crashing even after reboot. At first I thought it may have been an error in some other feature but when I booted up my Laptop (which is configured as a copy of my desktop) it crashed in exactly the same way. There was no way to get to a stable desktop to do anything about the situation. Even SAFE mode crashed. For information – I went to a colleague’s machine and used Magic Mail Monitor to check and it was able to log onto my mail server and see the emails. I could have deleted them there but I wanted to confirm that they were the problem on my machine. To solve the problem I had to restore basic windows (with Drive Image), log on to my mailbox from a web based mail program, delete the two emails and then restore my current Windows version. When this was done Explorer did not crash. Of course I wish I could have saved the two emails but I was worried that they had a virus or some thing like that. Actually they looked fairly normal. So. Mail monitor 1.3 is NOT as strong as Magic Mail Monitor. Some email messages will cause Explorer.exe to crash. I hope we can get a new version of mail monitor that is stronger when checking mail on the email Server. - shapeshifter - 09-18-2002 I have exactly the same versions of everything and haven't had any problems with mail monitor. Is it only certain emails that cause it to crash? If so, any ideas what the offending emails have in common? - Yuri Kobets - 09-19-2002 Can you send me that bad emails. Save them and add to zip. Actually I need only header of email so you can delete private content of emails. - cmishima - 09-20-2002 Yuri Kobets Wrote:Can you send me that bad emails. Save them and add to zip. I suppose I could have forwarded them but I did not know if they had hidden virus. So I do not have them. Anyway I will know what the problem is and what to do next time. I will set up a special email box to receive any bad email. At the moment Mail monitor is working correctly. |
