Hello Everyone

We had a great working TLB until.........As always when something goes wrong there were at least two things immediately proceeding the fault that might have been the cause so who knows what caused the problem. First the display prob - we were using the skin liqpix and it was working perfectly as were all the rest which we tried. We downloaded the Net Monitor plug-in and set it up and it worked fine. Just afterwards we also downloaded 54mB of all the language packs from MS. Shut down computer and went out. Came back, rebooted and found 1)98SE Control Panel>Regional Settings mysteriously changed to Finnish and 2) the highlighting stopped on the drop-down menus for TLB. The skins seem to not be working alright but all other functions are OK. One last note - using System Safety Monitor - it now started coming up with this - "Access violation at address 004A4E9D in module SYSSAFE.EXE read off address FFFFFFFF."

So it seems some display dll or other display file is going crazy. Anyone have any ideas? Tried re-loading and changing skins but TLB display is still faulty.

Please can you post screenshot of the problems on TLB?

I'd recommend fixing one thing at a time. Typically, if two or more problems occur at the same time, the causes are usually related.

The easiest thing to do would be to change your regional settings back to English, then reboot. If it's still acting goofy, delete net monitor and reboot. I highly doubt a skin would be causing the problems you're experiencing, but if it's still acting wird after you delete net monitor, try switching to the default skin.

My gut feeling is that the language packs are causing the problems, and I'd uninstall them if it were my machine. Just out of curiosity, why do you need them?

Hello

Well we tried the language packs to have the proper character displays instead of little rectangular boxes. We alos found that having those packs was a tremendous rescource hog! We uninstalled every one of them.

Next we checked the skins and they all (XP BLUE, GreenDream, italian, Liqpix, Luna & Silver) work correctly except Liqpix. It used to work correctly before the downloads. We only had Liqpix installed for about a day but it did image correctly. Below is a screenshot now. One thing has been a little confusing - the checkbox in 'Menu appearance to 'Use custom menu colors'. We tried it checked and unchecked both and it seems the optional skins are supposed to have that box not checked.

So now the only problem seems to be the background, text and highlighting in Liqpix.

Thank you.

Helps to have an image.

Just an addition - using the default skin the customise menu color function does not work. Checked or unchecked "Use custom menu colors" box makes no difference. For example we choose a bright green text color. The settings stay stuck on what is already there. Below are a screenshot without box checked and the second is with it checked both trying to specify bright green text color for menus.

Thank you.

Now I know what happened Smile You are using Icons with text layout for menu. In this case TLB use toolbar layout for menus. To fix this right-click in the menu and select Customize menu... and set View mode into Text menu. If you are using TLB version 2.2.0.1 then you can right-click -> Appearance -> Text Menu.

Hah! Brilliant genious that you are Yuri - that fixed it! Just one thing to mention - especially regarding that new properties scheme - A user sometimes is not sure when a setting is global or not. Please before you release that new properties setting box let us the beta testers have a go at it.

Thank you very much.

P.S. How is that work coming along that will free TLB so it does not use Explorer.exe?

P.P.S. Is it possible to have Weather Monitor use IE instead of Explorer to obtain data?
