News Reader is the simple RSS Aggregator for True Launch Bar. This plugin show topics from news feeds as menus. You can add any number of channels. Supported formats: RSS, RDF, Atom.

Very nice interface, going to test this some more...

I just removed the 4 default newsfeeds it creates (btw, is "channel" a proper name for it?), and then also the "Add new channel" option disappears. Now there's no option to add anything anymore... Sad

Thank you Yuri Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I was using the free Awasu RSS reader which was the closest to what I wanted until you created yours. Goodbye Awasu. Confusedhock:

Keep up the good work! Smile

Does the News reader work with True Launch Bar 3.2 non beta? Because I can't seem to get it to work. I don't use the beta version because it could cause problems. Do you think its safe to use the beta version? Also why does it say '' Unreaded"? It should say Unread.

News Reader updated up to v1.2

Fixed crash on some channels.

No, you need TLB v3.2.6 or newer. You can use NR with 3.2 but you don't see the sumenus with news topics.

Currently NR plugin is not 100% compatible even with version 3.2.12 I've found some non-critical bugs in TLB during the working on NR:
1) The view mode, auto-arrange etc. for the news topics menus are not saved after restart/refresh
2) Sometimes NR can show incorrect Read/Unread state (solved by closing an opening menu)
3) You can't to change the icon size in the Button Properties for NR plugin. Actually you can, but result will be bad Sad

The last beta version is stable enough. You can try it.

   Fixed in the version 1.2

Great work, Yuri!

One question. I have the NewsReader on a second Truelaunchbar, specifically for plugins. The first bar contains a virtual startmenu with hotkey 'win'. However, the newsreader plugin took over the hotkey somehow, the startmenu isn't opened anymore.

When looking at the tlb settings for the second bar, I don't see the hotkey associated...
Kind regards,
Cornelis

A little bug: when marking all channels read, the items in the channels submenu are still bold when entering the channel the first time. Afterwards, they are not bold anymore.

(edit) One more bug: the icon in the taskbar shows new items available, but at opening the menu, all channels are still in normal mode (not bold). Could be related to the first bug.

Sorry, bugs already known

A wish: add the ability to (pre)view a newsitem in a popup or so.
Kind regards,
Cornelis

Make sure you have tooltips enabled, then move your mouse-cursor over a menu item. It will display all available content for that newsfeed-item. I think this is the easiest and fastest possible preview... Smile

Ah, I didn't have the 'show tips in menu' option checked

btw, I noticed something strange with the plugin icon.
To reproduce:
1) set appearance to 'default button'
2) set appearance to 'icon and text'
3) set appearance to 'text'
result: icon is still shown.

Going to reboot and retry it afterwards.
Update: also after a reboot behaviour occurs. Bad thing is that choosing 'refresh' from the context menu makes explorer crashing :-(
Kind regards,
Cornelis

I added http://www.dslreports.com/rss20.xml

But when I open a feed it just open My Documents folder.

Is that a bug?

Another wish (sorry, Yuri):

I would like to see a possibility to disable updating all channels via an entry in the context menu. At work, I always want to monitor the channels but sometimes (at my own forum for example) authenticating also sets the readflags for articles. Result: when the home pc keeps updating the channels, I don't see new articles at work
Kind regards,
Cornelis
