Would it be possible to make TLB restart itself after an update without having to restart the whole computer? I know it's not a big deal but I'm one of those losers that gets excited when my computer's been running for a week straight. Plus, it takes a while to restart. Would this be possible?

Mike

You're not a loser! I get excited about things like that, too!

If I hadn't had to reboot today, to install the latest System Monitor, I'd have been up for 13 days! Big Grin

This is a possible routine to update TLB (or plugins) without rebooting (although you might lose some tray icons, so you'll need to restart those programs):

1) Open the TLB LiveUpdate screen, but don't start the update yet...
2) Terminate explorer.exe (Start -> Shutdown -> Ctrl-Alt-Shift + Cancel)
3) Now perform the TLB update
4) Restart explorer.exe (Ctrl+Alt+Del, File -> Run -> "explorer.exe")

There are other possibilities, the main thing is that no DLL files from TLB are in use when updating... If it still complains about "Computer needs to reboot" then it's a bad installer, just ignore it, and you'll see everything works and is properly updated...

Next update, I'll try that, and report back! Big Grin

Dracula when I have tryed doing that and then check what version I am running it still is the old version. but perhaps it's enough just to log out/in rather than restart the whole system.

I must admit I haven't tried it myself with the LiveUpdate... I just know that the DLL's must be unused before they can be replaced by a new version and that this can be achieved by killing explorer.exe.

Maybe the LiveUpdate always assumes TLB is running (which seems logical), and therefore doesn't even attempt to replace the DLL's immediately, but simply schedules this task for next reboot... Just guessing though...

Next time I'll monitor file and registry access to see what's happening... hey, I don't like this reboot either Wink

You have a point there Dracula. I tend to use LiveUpdate out of convenience... Or assumed convenience!

Next update I'll try the installer only. Unless, of course, Yuri reads this, and fixes it for the next update!
