Any suggestions on how to get Active Desktop working on NT4 without installing IE 4? I have IE 5.5 and do not wish to deal with any problems encountered when trying to install a previous version.

Far as I know to get Active Desktop you need to install
IE4/SP1.......... sorry -=)

Yes. Active Desktop is the part of the Internet Explorer 4.x. If you have IE 5.5 you can uninstall IE 5.5, install IE 4.x with Active Desktop and then upgrade it into IE 5.5 again.
There one problem may be if you have been removed uninstall information of IE 5.5 - You cannot uninstall IE 5.5 in this case
I have some information how to install Active Desktop without IE4 but this is very dangerous operaion. I do not want to publish it on this place. E-Mail me if you want.

I think on http://www.microsoft.com/ie/ Wink

BTW If you already have IE5 then you can install Active Desktop using command:
IE5Setup.exe /c:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_NTx86 /I:y"

Note: you must have full distribute of IE 5 (you can find it on http://www.microsoft.com/ie/). Be sure that file IE4SHLNT.CAB in this package.

I'm not sure that this method will work with IE6 but if there are IE4SHLNT.CAB file then you can try with IE6 too (only replace IE5Setup->IE6Setup ie5wzd->ie6wzd)
