Spacer just add some space (or picture) on the toolbar/menu. Actually you can't to use the spacer to hide the system tray (system tray not a part of TLB and not a toolbar).
I know the way to remove the system tray. Add the DWORD value NoTrayItemsDisplay at the registry path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
And set this value into 1. After restart the tray will be removed.
