I was wondering if you would consider modifing Mail Monitor to check to see if the selected mail reader is loaded before checking for new mail. If the mail reader is loaded don't check for new mail since most people have their reader checking it for them already. The other option would be to continue checking and reporting new mail but if the mail reader is already loaded bring it to the front when you click on the Mail Monitor icon.
