I have a folder consisting completely of shortcuts to network files in my Start Menu. I have created an item in TLB that is a folder menu that points to the parent folder.

When I open the folder menu and point to the submenu, it takes a very long time to load the menu of 29 shortcuts, much longer than Windows Explorer/Start Menu takes, the first time I access the submenu.

What is TLB doing for each shortcut that is taking so long?

What is version of TLB? Try the last beta - it must work much faster. Also turn on the Use background for Virtual Folders option in the TLB Settings->Other options.

I did have that setting turned on and I turned it off - when the folder was being opened TLB and my taskbar stopped responding to clicks until it finished loading.

I will switch the setting and try again.

I did some more testing and the problem seemed to occur due to shortcuts pointing to files that were on servers that no longer existed.

Removing them helped that folder, but I have the same delay when opening Administrative Tools in an expanded Control Panel entry in a menu.
A message in gray says loading folder contents and the taskbars/TLB stop responding for a few seconds. At least that delay is tolerable.
