RSS Reader?

What are the numbers next to the rss feeds? Like cnn always says (20) and ESPN.com always says (17). Why is it never more or less?

And is there anyway not have the number show next to the feed? Could you add that option?



Also the unread says 173 so I read about 20 feeds and the unread still says 173. Could you make it so when you open a feed it will Automaticly mark it as read?
