Hi Yuri,

I'm having a bit of trouble with the icons in my TLB on one monitor (dual monitor system.) They have gone low resolution/low color on me.
(*this started after a system hang/crash (not related to TLB, ...it was my mail client.)

Here's what the problem looks like:

www.amewesing.com/~sshotz/snag48.jpg
(This is on monitor 1)

Here's a TLB on monitor 2 & the icons are fine:

(This is on monitor 2)

I've tried refreshing TLB as well as close/re-open.
No change.

I've re-installed latest TLB release. (with all toolbars closed at the time)

I've re-loaded my video driver using the latest from nvidia, as well as the latest offered by windows update.

The problem persists.

I'm not saying the issue is necessarily with TLB, (mmm... could it be Windows!) but thought you might have some valuable insight on the issue either way.

Thanks,

Rich

Looks like you have less colors depth on the first monitor. Try to open any picture in the TrueColor or HiColor on this monitor. What do you see? The colors are valid? If so increase the colors depth on this monitor.

My apologies for not providing the info in the original post.

I've tried 16 bit as well as 24 bit (true color) on the monitor & it makes no differance to the tlb icons. On the other hand, a picture opened in thumbs+ looks fine. (at either resolution & on either monitor)

hmmm...

Might try the video driver again...

Ok. loaded the nvidia drivers (again) no change.

Tried the switch toolbar function & loaded a different toolbar on the same monitor (with the problem), the icons look fine, so it appears it's in this one toolbar's config.

Is there something in the .ini file that might be scrambled/corrupted??

...and BTW, it's a fairly full toolbar, it seems to take a shile to move it (20-30 seconds)

another observation...

Moving it to the other monitor makes no diff., the icons are still trashed.

Standard Quick Launch have same problem or not? What about icons on the desktop? Try with same icons like on toolbar.

TLB takes the system defaults colors depth for icons. The fine icons on the first monitor is really have fine 16 color images.

Try to play with Use system icon cache option in the advanced tab.

Eureka!

I kept at this & FINALLY found the solution.

Big surprise, it's... drumroll please!

it's MICROSOFT that caused the problem!!!

Netmeeting is the culprit... (wow, I don't think I would have EVER looked into netmeeting as a possible source had I not found this thread...

The URL for the fix:

www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win2000/t1004451603

Look about half way down through the thread (38 posts on this problem!) or do a search in the page for netmeeting.

I followed the instructions about going into netmeeting & toggling share in high color with the subsequent reboot & life is colorful once again!

I think I'm having a <snif> kodak moment.

Microsoft, what a royal pita!

Cheers,

& thanks for your help Yuri! (always appreciated!)

Rich
