OK try this -

On your desktop>
Right Click
New
Shortcut
In the "Type location..." text box type this exactly like this:
mailto:address@hotmail.com
Click Next
Call it address@hotmail.com
Click Finish

It should now take ths icon of your mail program.

Try double clicking this shortcut. What happens?

It also depends on your mail reader program I suppose, what are you using?
