Changing Username

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question.

I would like to change my username. How do I do this?

I have "Hide your online status" checked "Yes", but my username keeps appearing in all new messages I post.

If the only way to change my username is to kill my current account, then open a new one, that would be OK with me.

Please tell me how to proceed from here.
