I believe under certain circumstances it is not possible to Right Click and delete shortcuts i.e. {filename.lnk} within folders.
If the link becomes invalid (say you have uninstalled the application) and you then try to RIGHT CLICK | DELETE Windows will not pop up the Right Click context menu but instead show you the

If the shortcut is on the True Launch Bar it then clears the alert and pops up the RC context menu and you can delete *however* if the shortcut is within a folder the Right click context menu is not show and the folder closes leaving the shortcut intact.
Summary - You cannot cannot delete invalid shortcuts within folders by Right Click.
