Just right click and select "Customize Menu" and select "Icon Only"

Or if you just mean the toolbar itself...
Just right click a open area of toolbar and uncheck "Show Text"

In your example of removing the text on the toolbar you show the text *below the icon.

How is this done?

Under Windows 2000 I can only get text on the side of the icon when I set Show Text

Thank you.

You have to have Large Icons set to have text below. Right click on taskbar - View>Large Icons. Hope this helps.
