  • "Markup Tool" would save the entire canvas rectangle area having graphics elements. The background would be transparent (not gray).

  • Have the ability to configure the color of the 'transparent' area is in the canvas. Configuration default to checkerboard for transparent or perhaps a color if the user didn't want transparent background.

  • Have the 'captured screen image' be a graphic element just like the 'tools' are so it can be moved around in the canvas.

  • Provide ability to open and paste other graphics onto the canvas as other graphic elements.

  • Provide ability to foreground/background order of graphic elements. This would allow for overlays of graphic elements over each other.[/list:u]

Other screen capture products have some or all of the features above. What are your thoughts?

A few other ideas/concepts:
  • Capture Region: When the "region" cross-hairs appears, it would be fantastic if the up/down, left/right arrows could control movement at the pixel level for a fine tuning of pointer region selection. This would require dragging the cross-hairs and releasing the mouse button not cause the capture event as the user might want to fine tune with the up/down, left/right arrows. Further, the user might feel that further adjustment is required using the mouse. Something like ENTER would capture the region.

  • Would be fantastic to have a "cut out effect/mask" that would allow for different cutting of user selected top, bottom, left, or right, any combination. Different masks could be applied for different shape cutout effects. Ripped Effect, Fabric Scissors, Old Map, etc. See concept image.

  • Provide ability to make transparent image on outside of image area, such as rounded areas (i.e., screen capture corners on Windows 7, and skinned dialogs, etc.) This ability would also apply to the "cut out effect/mask" concept above as transparent background would be very desirable (or whatever the background 'color').

  • Ability to do drop shadow edge like Windows 7 shadow effect.

  • Ability to do Drop Shadow & Cut Out/Mask effect on same image.

  • Trivial: The Copyright date under the "About Make Screenshot" hasn't been updated. [/list:u]

    What are your thoughts?

There needs to be a way to configure and turn off the the "Make Screenshot | Do you want to close Markup Tool and discard the screenshot? | Yes | No" dialog.
