Is it possible to upgrade this forum software to the new version 3.1.2. It has several useful new features and handles other languages very well.

Thanks

An upgrade to Ikonboard would be great, and I do find that the current version is a little limited.

I'm supportive of an upgrade as long as it doesn't significantly distract from TLB's development. Yuri has a lot on his hands as we're a demanding group!

As I understand it, it's just a matter of downloading the upgrade and installing over the current version.

Part of making Yuri's job easier is developing a well informed user group, so a better Ikonboard would help us improve in that area. Smile

Doug, as you'll undoubtedly know, upgrading software is *never* as simple as "installing over the current version".

Yes, I agree the version of Ikonboard in use has it's restrictions and does hamper what we *could* do to support Yuri in his efforts with this magnificent project. I'm happy to support an upgrade if and *only* if the new functionaility by upgrading is seemless, painless (for us and Yuri) and doesn't hamper TLB development. If Yuri has time to sort this out, great. Until then, I'd rather see a better True Launch Bar & Plugins versus a new Ikonboard, anyday!

I plan to migrate to vBulleting forum. But I cannot find (or configure) good converting tool. When I found some more time I'll make this.

Have you ever thought about migrating to phpBB? This is really an awesome board, very userfriendly and lots of mods and tools (also to convert from Ikonboard).
Kind regards,
Cornelis

Guess opinions differ, from experience and various other sources I've learnt that phpBB 2 is instable and lacks a lot of useful features Sad. Your experiences might be different though, or they might have upgraded it, can't say...

vBulletin remains the king though. I've recently purchased it for use on my own website, and don't regret it at all... so many features, so customizable, you'll find new admin options weeks after installing it Big Grin.

As for converting, vBulletin itself offers this functionality, once you've registered you can get 'em from the members area:

Quote:We currently offer a set of scripts that will allow you to import posts, threads and users from the following programs: Infopop Ultimate Bulletin Board 5, Infopop Ultimate Bulletin Board 6.0, 6.1 and 6.2, Infopop UBBThreads 5.4 (formerly wwwthreads), vBulletin Lite, Infopop OpenTopic/UBB.x, Ikonboard 2, Ikonboard 3, phpBB2, DC Forum, XMB, and ezboard (posts only, not members for ezboard).

Yes I know about this converter from members area. But the result of converting is very ugly. It convert only text and nothing else Sad
