can't open net monitor plugin

I use the the demo version of True Launch Bar 3.2 on Windows 98SE, and after I downloaded and installed the net monitor plugin (v1.4), I wanted to open it by right-clicking the true launch bar and going to the "New" menu. My problem is that the net monitor plugin isn't shown in the "New" menu, so I can't use it!

The plugin (v1.4) IS listed in the uninstall list in the True Launch Bar Components Manager and the net monitor folder is in the plugin folder of TrueLaunchBar in the windows explorer (incl. the netmon.dll, the netmon.png, the uninstall.exe and the skin folder), so I think that I installed it correctly. The other plugin I use at the moment (TLB Clock) works 100% and is listed in the "New" menu.

Doesn't the net monitor plugin work on Win98 machines, or with the demo version of True Launch Bar ?? Is there another way to integrate the plugin ?

I installed True Launch Bar on D:\Program Files\..., not on C:\Program Files\... (C:\ is only for Windows on my PC) - could that be a possible reason ?

1) Run the command:

You need add the ful paths if needed.

2) Uninstall Net Monitor. Delete all NM files if they left on the HDD. And install plugin again.

I already did 2), but that didn't help.

So I did 1): I started regsrv32.exe netmon.dll, incl. the full path, but then the following error message appears: "LoadLibrary ("netmon.dll") failed - A Device Attached to the System Is Not Functioning."

Then I searched (at google) what could be the cause for this error message - and found this MS site:

Then I tried method 2 from this pages (extract the winoa386.new from the original Win98SE CD) but even that didn't help (still the "Device Attached to the System Is Not Functioning" error message appears.).

I use a German Windows 98SE (original, not cracked), and my network card in my PC is a network adapter connected via USB ("Teledat Fast Ethernet USB").

Hope you can help me with this error message.

No, there's no error number.

Are there download links to older versions of the net monitor plugin (1.3 or 1.2) ? Maybe these older versions work on my PC ?

Do you old versions working? I don't think old version will work correctly.

Please try to find DLL's and compare versions:
IPHLPAPI.DLL 5.00.1717.2
OLE32.DLL 4.71.2900
WINMM.DLL 4.03.1998
COMCTL32.DLL 5.80

This versions from my Windows 98SE. And Net Monitor is working fine.

Most of my DLLs are newer (and I don't want to downgrade):

COMCTL32.DLL 5.81

Sorry I've tested NM on some Windows 98 computers and can't to find problems.

OK, today I took the regsvr32.exe from my Windows98SE-CD instead of the regsvr32.exe from C:\windows\system - and I got a an error number!! The error message is now:

LoadLibrary("netmon.dll") failed.
GetLastError returns 0x0000001f.

When I open netmon.dll with Dependency Walker, the program tells me that it can't open APPHELP.DLL and USERENV.DLL. Please check your email account for a link to a screenshot of the error messages.

I guess your dll is from Windows XP system. On Windows 98 it must have version 5.x

Yes, the version of my shlwapi.dll is 6.x (date 29.08.02). So I copied the shlwapi.dll from the cab-files of my original Win98SE-CD (version 5.x) to c:\windows\system, but after rebooting my explorer.exe crashes (causing an error in browseui.dll)! Then I checked the version of my browseui.dll - it's also 6.x (date also 29.08.02). So I copied the browseui.dll from the cab-files of my Win98SE-CD (again version 5.x) to c:\windows\system, but after rebooting explorer.exe still crashes (causing an error in explorer.exe)!

The version of explorer.exe on my PC is 4.72.3612.1700 (date 20.08.99), from my Win98SE-CD is 4.72.3110.1 (date 5.05.99), but i don't think replacing the explorer would change anything - it would still crash and causing an error in another dll (probably from 29.08.02).

You may wish to look into an additional idea although it may not help this immediate problem (but it may). Microsoft has never released a Service Pack for Windows 98SE but somone has created one and it should be looked at - at least. When we used to use 98SE we tried it and it worked quite well. You can find it here.

As always consider backing up everything first but again - we had no problems using this update package.
