Hey Yuri,
I'm a long-time TBL registered user and I've just migrated to a new Win 8.1 machine and I was really sad to see that the TLB 'Glass Effect' is no longer working. I know Microsoft yanked the glass code in Win 8/8.1 but it's now back and available from a 3rd party developer: http://glass8.berlios.de/ [Aero Glass for Windows 8]

True Launch Bar Menus look SO AWESOME in transparent glass (unfortunately, however, the plain transparency has BIG readability issues when overlaid on existing windows due to the missing blur effect).

Is there ANY way you could either:
1) support the glass effect natively within TLB, or 2) support the glass effect that's provided by the above 3rd party developer?

Thanks SO much for considering this. I'd be happy to help with any testing. My TLB menus are now nowhere nearly as elegant or usable on Win 8...
Cheers, -JT

Thank you for share this software. I've disabled glass in Windows 8 by default because there were some problems. But now I can enable the glass features. I've prepared the test version. Please can you try it.

To enable the glass effects turn on the option like on the screenshot.

Wow, thanks for the fast response Yuri!
I've just downloaded the test version and will report my findings shortly...

Just did some tests Yuri, and it looks like the Glass effect is mostly working Smile
I am noticing, however, a couple of issues on my system (I am using the default skin):
1) There is a slightly 'dark tint' that is added to the TLB menus when this new 'Glass' option gets selected - even when the 'Menu -> Effects -> Transparency' setting is set to 100% [Fully Transparent]
  • Perhaps this is being generated from the new DWMglass.DLL?
2) I have one tear-off menu that has some customizations that is not reflecting the glass effect - it remains transparent (but all of the sub-menus from that menu ARE displaying the glass effect properly (but with the dark tint).
  • I was able to get the menu eventually to display the Glass by going to the taskbar TLB and selecting customize sub menus and selecting 'overwriting existing sub-menus options', BUT this wiped out all of my many sub-menu customizations!
  • Is there any way to reset/remove the customizations of a single menu? without wiping out the rest of the sub-menu customizations?
I have attached before and after screenshots that illustrate the above issues.
Many, many thanks for working on this glass feature! -JT

Unfortunately the attached screenshots are very small. Please can you post the full size screenshots?

It is possible to change the transparency for single menu. Right-click in the menu and select View->Glass Transparency.

Also "Customize menu" don't overwrite the submenus (customized before).

Now I see. I guess the "dark tint" is the "standard colorization". I guess if you change the color in the control panel, the tint will be other.

Thanks Yuri, My menus now look fantastic and the Glass effect is working great!!
(I did re-upload the higher resolution screenshots). Thanks for your insight on the 'standard colorization' and on changing transparency for a single menu. I did try adjusting the 'color intensity slider' and selecting different colors, but it did not seem to reduce the 'tint.' In any case, the standard colorization is certainly acceptable and so much better than no glass at all!

You are a star Smile for incorporating this capability! Please feel free to post me any additional version updates if you make any additional improvements! Thanks again... -JT

Hey Yuri,
I notice you now have posted a new *beta* version of True Launch Bar. I've now been using the *6.6.1-test* version with Aero Glass support for 3 months now and it has been working great! Are you planning on including the updated Aero Glass feature in the next/beta release? (I'm hoping so)

Thx, -JT

Great! (you might want to mention that this Glass feature is included in the *What's new* section of the *Beta* testing page and/or the *Updates History* page).

Cheers, -JT
