You have two options to create a new contact:
1) Right-click the Address Book menu button, and select "New Contact"
2) Press the "New contact hotkey" which can be configured in the Address Book properties.
Admittedly, I had expected a third option, which would be more intuitive in my opinion...
If you open the (empty) Address Book menu, and right-click in that menu, there is a "New" submenu, which currently contains only two items: "separator" and "title"... An extra option "Contact" would fit nicely in that submenu...
