Explorer resource leak - Possibly TLB 2.2.0.8b related?

(My system: Windows XP SP1, P3-750 MHz, 256 Mb RAM)

Great to see any news about TLB on the frontpage I immediately went for the new beta version and also tested the process viewer plugin...

Within 1 hour after the installation and some testing of the settings and the process viewer, I suddenly noticed menu's and window parts were painted on random positions on the desktop. The entire system became almost totally irresponsive, and the desktop really looked funny but practically unusable.

In the Task Manager I noticed that the explorer.exe process was using 10,000 GDI resources (which is probably some kind of maximum). This definitely isn't normal, at the moment it uses 750...

Is this coincidence or does anyone else notice this with TLB 2.2.0.8b? And maybe together with process viewer plugin?

I'm having no such problems with the new beta.

Hmm, that's weird, it's a public http server which almost no restrictions, maybe some proxy problem on your side... Do you also get it when you directly go to the avatar image?

Yuri was good enough to give me some web space so I could post my icons, skins, tips, etc online in one place. However, I had a hard drive crash and lost most of my icons and all my web page stuff. I'll eventually redesign the site and get it updated. I'm working on a set of skins to compliment the sentinel visual style as well as a new icon set.

Ok, it was not coincidence, here's my test result:

Without the True Launch Bar, explorer.exe uses 500 GDI resources. As soon as I open TLB 2.2.0.8(a), this value jumps to 850, and it keeps rising! This doesn't happen with the previous version (2.2.0.7) or any other program...

When I disable plugins (by hiding them), it eventually stops rising, but it never drops... only when I close the True Launch Bar, it drops back to 500....

My conclusion, there is a resource leak in TLB, and it has probably something to do with updating the icons, images or bitmaps...

Plugins in use: Drive Space 1.2.0.0, Mail Monitor 1.9.0.0, Motherboard Monitor 1.0.0.0, Net Monitor 0.2.0.0, Clock 1.2.0.
0, Weather Monitor 1.2.0.0, Volume Control 2.1.0.0, Winamp Control 2.6.0.0 (hidden most of the time)

I tested the plugins individually, here are the GDI increase results:
Winamp Control: 20 GDI obj/second
Clock: 4 GDI obj/second
Drive Space (2 drives): 4 GDI obj/second
Net Monitor (1 connection): 1 GDI obj/second
Motherboard Monitor (1 temp. sensor): 0.5 GDI obj/second

Am I really the only one with this problem? In order to test it, please enable the column "GDI objects" in Task Manager, and make sure the Clock or Winamp plugin is visible... TLB is part of the explorer.exe process....

I didnt try the other version yet you gave us Yuri. I am using the 2.2.0.8 beta with Win2k running and same problem occuring.
Don't know what you are talking about with the GDI Objects, but MY explorer starts using up to 90% of my CPU and the only solution is shutting it down with the task manager and restarting it on some other kinky way. When I disable TLB completely everything goes fine again, so it IS the problem of TLB since it never happened before not even in beta 2.2.0.7

In fact, this 'new' version 2.2.0.8a you posted, was for me the reason to give it another try... unfortunately it had the same problem...

??? Same here. Installed 2.2.0.8 (not "a" build) and got desktop corruption. I saw strange refreshing blinks and my taskbar was realocated to upper screen side. CPU was completely loaded. It's definitely resource leak. I downgraded to 2.2.0.7 - no problems any longer. I use Drive Space, Clock and Turn Off plug-ins. System is WinXP Pro SP1.
Hope developers will debug that proggy soon.

For what it is worth - Win98SE
TLB 2.2.0.8beta is using 3% system resources here. System resources does not change or climb, either.

My GDI's with explorer and True Launch Bar running start at under 400 and rise to around 1450 after opening all menus and stay that way. Opening menus after reaching the maximum of menus will not add to GDI's anymore.

However, I did notice that whenever a window is opened (My Computer, Control Panel, etc.) GDI's go up and when the window is closed, it adds one GDI to the total. For instance, if there are 1466 GDI's and I open My Computer, it goes to 1526. Closing My Computer returns it to 1467. Each time a window is opened and closed, there is a net gain of one GDI which will eventually add up when many windows are opened and closed. :0

I never tried this with previous versions so I do not know if this is only with 2.2.0.8a or with others too. ???

bbfi, what kind of plugins are you using which are also visible on the main bar?

Indeed, when opening a menu, the amount of GDI objects increases by a great number, but when the menu is closed, this amount drops back to normal...

I'm almost sure the plugins are at the root of this problem... they cause the screen/bitmap/canvas to be repainted every second...

I use Network Monitor, two Weather Monitors (spliced together to get info from two sources), Drive Space, and 3 Spacer plugins.

Tested with 2.2.0.9 beta, problem is still there...

Btw, I don't notice any high CPU usage, just an increasing use of GDI resources: with my current plugin configuration it rises about 2000 every 10 minutes...

Going back to 2.2.0.7, fortunately I always save the dll's ;-)

Same here. TLB 2.2.0.9 still swallows all CPU power. Explorer is eating enormous resources. Desktop became corrupted and taskbar moved to tu upper screen position. Back to 2.2.0.7. No luck there.
