When initially hovering the mouse over a menu button, the yellow Tips balloon doesn't immediately establish its position and 'skids', flickering the balloon as it rapidly refreshes until it takes hold after about 1/2 of a second, even when the mouse is over the same button the whole time.

It has no ramifications, other than an annoying display which makes it somewhat unreadable until the balloon establishes an unmoving position.

Optimally it would popup when over a button, and once it popsup, it wouldn't move until the mouse is no longer over the button.

(this concludes a long story for a short issue Wink)

I am also having the same problem sometimes, but not only with TLB but also on more programs. But for me it constantly flashes until I move my mouse slowly to the edge of the item, then it dispays correctly. Could be unrelated to your problem or perhaps this is a minor windows bug.

I use XP and do not have this problem or ever in the past either. Smile Could it be the video card or your settings? ???

Ok, thanks. I'm going to explore a few things and try to find what may be causing it.

perhaps you people with no problem have turned off fade-ing og tooltips. I'm using a nVIDIA card with all latest drivers and patches.

Hmm, the rest of my computer's tooltips fade in and out (with no flicker), but TLB's just pop on and off. Is there a setting to make TLB's tooltips fade in and out, too?

I use an nVidia GeForce2 MX400 w/ latest drivers.

I was able to duplicate this bug by setting my tips to appear at 50ms or less. Try setting this value (TLB Settings -> Tips -> Show Tip) to 100 or higher and see if the flicker goes away for you.

Yes, thanks shapeshifter, that makes a significant difference. My tips were set at 5 because I want them to appear very quickly.

While they are popping up and staying in the same position now (even when the mouse moves further along the same button, which is great) I now see them redrawing the information within it once, which is a slightly different issue than explained earlier.

For example, when a tip is showing over one button, and then I move the mouse to the button next to it, the tip disappears between buttons (as it should) and reappears when the mouse moves over the next button (as it should), but the initial information and icon showing in the tip is from the previous button, before it is quickly updated to the current button.
